Valencia's Impact in the First Half

Anthony Valencia was the standout for Royal Antwerp FC in the first half against KRC Genk. On the left flank he was not tackled by Joris Kayembe, but he created threat and also took on defensive duties. Valencia scored the first goal for the home side, giving Antwerp a 1-0 lead. Shortly after the half, he made a beautiful break, then ran hard. The ball hit the post, an action that could have been one of the highlights of the evening.

Valencia combined technique, courage and quick execution. He stayed involved in the play and made Genk particularly difficult on his flank. His first half showed how much impact he can have when given space and trust.

Unexpected Substitution

After halftime Valencia did not return to the field. Carlos Mejia took his place. The substitution came unexpectedly, despite Valencia seeming fully engaged in the first half and Antwerp leading.

Valencia did not celebrate his goal; he immediately returned to his position on the own side. His absence in the second half turned the evening into a strange two‑part story: first the man who made the difference, then completely out of sight.

After the match Valencia was not seen when the Antwerp players greeted the supporters. He stayed off the pitch for the rest of the game and the fan greeting.

A Match Full of Goals

The 4-4 draw against Genk produced eight goals, but Valencia left a strong mark before the break. His contribution was clear: he had a major share in the tempo of the home side before halftime.

Valencia showed in 45 minutes how much impact he can have when given space and trust on the flank. His first half remains the central image of a chaotic duel where Antwerp and Genk gave each other no moment of rest.

Valencia's performance remains a striking example of how a player can shape a match in the first half and then vanish from the second.
