What do Antwerp fans expect from the new season?
Antwerp fans are optimistic about the new season. With new owners and a new coach, they expect a strong performance from the team.
Johan Heylen, CEO of sponsor Heylen Vastgoed and already since his 9th a supporter of the Great Old, says: "I have a positive feeling about the new situation. The fresh wind will certainly bear fruit in the long run, because they will continue the line of good youth work."
Guido Belcanto, singer-songwriter from the Kempen, had initially not had a good feeling about the arrival of the new majority shareholder Wouter Vandenhaute. "I found him an opportunist", judges Belcanto. "First Anderlecht, now Antwerp. 'Where is his football heart?' I asked myself."
But Belcanto accepts the fact that this is simply a business deal. "I'll go with my son and he'll be happy to stand between the hardcore fans", he says. "But I'm already too old for that."
Vincent Scheltiens-Ortigosa, historian and professor at the University of Antwerp, is optimistic about the course that his club wants to take. "It's good that we remain in local hands and not in the hands of some sheikh with vague plans."
