Who will leave? Antwerp aims to trim its squad and raise funds in the next two weeks. The club has yet to sell or loan out any players and must now make changes. The reasons are simple: the core is now too large and money needs to be made. According to coach Marvin Compper, players with a profile like that of Anthony Valencia (23) will be coveted. Valencia was recently matchwinner against KV Kortrijk, but because he has only one year left on his contract and is inconsistent, it was planned to sell him in this window. Compper also takes this into account. “Until the end of the transfer window, players with a profile like that of Anthony will be coveted”, said the coach on Saturday. Farouck Adekami (20) is also someone they want to sell at Antwerp. The Ivorian striker has a remaining option in his contract that the club can exercise, but it is felt that it is better to sell him because he not only has a lot of talent but also a volatile character. There has been interest from France and Portugal recently, but it remains to be seen if anything will come of it. In any case, 20% of the profit will go to the Right to Dream Academy, his former club. A lot, considering he was sold there for just €70,000. With Mukhammadali Urinboev (21), Gabriel Jesus David (19) and Gerard Vandeplas (20), there are still offensive forces for whom a solution is being sought. Urinboev was unable to make an impact in his first season. The Uzbek left-back has difficulty adapting to the physical Belgian football and has no prospects for improvement. The same goes for Jesus, the big Nigerian striker, who has an interesting profile, but is no longer part of the A-team. There is interest from the Austrian second division. Vandeplas, on the other hand, has already made a good impression. The energetic striker was even a regular starter last season. Only he missed crucial chances and on the Bosuil they think he would benefit from a year of experience elsewhere than playing fourth fiddle (after Frey, Porozo and Narh) and playing for the Young Reds in fourth division. A youth player who is in a similar situation is Andreas Verstraeten (20). The left-back came into action thanks to his versatility, but is currently on the sidelines.
