Antwerp suffered another defeat in the Jupiler Pro League this weekend, losing 2-0 at home to league leaders Union Saint-Gilloise. It marks a fourth consecutive league loss for the club, leaving them stuck in 13th place with just seven points from seven matches.

Union SG took the lead through Mateo Biondic in the 51st minute, and Denzel De Roeve made it 0-2 with twenty minutes remaining. Antwerp offered little in response and failed to find the net.

The defeat extends a difficult period for the club. Following a draw with Genk, they have now lost four in a row, including this home defeat to the league leaders. The next opportunity for points comes on October 10th away to KVC Westerlo, who sit eighth in the table.

Their position in the standings is concerning, with a twelve-point gap to the top. Top scorer Michael Frey has four goals this season, but the defence has already conceded fifteen times. The last five results read lost, lost, lost, lost, and drawn.

The next challenge is therefore the away trip to Westerlo in two weeks, a chance to break the negative cycle.
